Does anyone have any items of cycling equipment which they would like to sell? This could include any unwanted articles from cycling shoes or helmets to solo bikes. If you do have any cycling equipment which you no longer have a use for, please contact me or e-mail jbr100uk@yahoo.co.uk. I will then include the items in a 'For Sale' section in the next edition of Spoke. Please remember to suggest a price which you feel the item is worth. John
On 3 August, we held a sponsored ride to Southport and back to raise money for the Club. Sponsor money is still coming in, but already, the total monies raised are over £1000 which far exceeds the amount raised when we last held this event in 2001. The sponsored ride was a roaring success in every way, with a highly impressive turn-out and excellent weather. If you have not yet paid your sponsor money to the Club, could you please do so by Monday September 22 at the latest. Please make cheques payable to Bury Tandem Club for the V.I. and send to David Jones at the address given earlier.
As always, we are seeking new front riders to join the Club, so that our visually impaired riders have the opportunity to tandem as often as possible. If you know anyone who may be interested in becoming a front tandem rider, could you please ask them to ring Derek. Experience of solo cycling is desirable, as is a reasonable level of fitness. No experience of tandem riding or visual impairment is necessary, however, as they will be given full training before being allowed out on the open road. Many thanks for your co-operation.

Christian Adam, a music student from Hamburg, Germany, set a new world record in a Swiss motorway tunnel by cycling backwards while playing his violin. His music stand was fixed where a cyclist would normally have his saddle and Christian sat on the handlebars. He cycled 60.45 km in five hours and nine minutes.
