All Tandem Club subscriptions are due in by the 1st of March. The subscription is now £25 per annum.
The Club Annual Dinner will take place on Friday 21 February at the Waterloo Hotel, Manchester Road, Bury. We all need to arrive by 7 pm as the meal is booked for 7.30. If you haven't already done so, please inform Dave Harrison of your menu choice.
The purpose of a reliability ride is for each tandem pair to complete a pre-set route independently within a given time limit. These rides are not races. They are far more about being self-sufficient. We have four reliability rides this year, as explained below:
| Date | Distance (km) (mi) |
|---|---|
| 9 March, 2003 | 50 (32) |
| 27 April, 2003 | 80 (50) |
| 8 June, 2003 | 100 (62.5) |
| 21 Sept, 2003 | 120 (75) |
The annual sponsored ride will take place on 3 August.
There will be two Walk and Ride weekends this year on 17-18 May and 19-20 July. I first mentioned these in the November 2002 edition of Spoke, but I would just like to clarify a couple of points about them. A 'Walk and Ride' weekend is basically an extended version of a car assisted ride which lasts for a weekend. Spouses and partners are welcome and they walk while we ride. We may leave late on Friday and stay overnight or leave early on Saturday morning. We would then do a long ride on Saturday and a shorter ride on Sunday. We would then travel back later on Sunday. Over-night stays may well be at youth hostels or Bed and Breakfasts.
We will have three car assisted rides this year on 30 March, 29 June and 31 August.
On 30 June 1988 at Semarang, Indonesia, nineteen members of the Jago sports club simultaneously mounted and rode a single bicycle for a distance of 200 metres.
