Enthusiastic new blood needed to enliven Committee Meetings. We have vacancies for committee members and a Chairman. Please ring our non-cyclist secretary for a chat. You do not need to be a club member - just interested in making things happen!
Consider the organisation of rotas and rides that Derek and Dave put into making these rides happen.
Consider the commitment shown by front riders in getting up and turning out, sometimes on cold, wet, windy Sundays, to enable v.i. cyclists to get out on the road. The Club would cease to exist without their unique contribution.
Consider the long term viability of the Club where everyone values everybody else. The Club is only as strong as its membership.
While cancellation due to illness or unforeseen family crisis is wholly understandable, could all riders please think twice before withdrawing from a ride at the last minute.
Everyone recognises that there is a great partnership in tandeming. It takes two!
So before you cancel your ride - please CONSIDER!
(September 4th. 2005 from Bury Town Hall to Southport.)
Please keep this date free in your diary!!! The Challenge is to get as many tandems out and as many sponsors as possible to make this day the best fund-raising success it's ever been. We need the money!
Transport is available for one-way riders!
We need hordes of collectors to rattle a tin for an hour or two on this day. We raise more money for the Club in the Precinct Collection than we do in any other event of the year - BUT ONLY IF WE HAVE VAST NUMBERS OF VOLUNTEER COLLECTORS!!! Please ring Peter Carr to volunteer a time spot of your choice.
Each year, Britons cycle about 3 billion miles, but this is less than 1% of the total distance travelled by other means.
Cycling at least 20 miles a week reduces the risk of coronary heart disease to less than half that for non-cyclists. If one third of all short car journeys were made by bike, heart disease rates would fall by between 5 and 10%.
