In the July edition of Spoke, Beryl's idea of organising a tandeming excursion to Ireland was publicised. So far, five rear riders have expressed an interest in the trip, along with only four front riders. If anyone else is interested, please either contact Derek on 0161 764 1239 or speak to him at the forthcoming annual general meeting. The more who sign up, the better.
Peter Carr is delighted to report that the total amount of money raised through sponsored events this year has increased by £272. This is due to outstanding monies collected from the sponsored ride to Southport in June, but also due to the fundraising efforts of individual members. This brings the overall total raised from sponsored events to over £1100.
This year's annual general meeting will take place in the Waterloo public house at 7.30 pm on Monday 26 November. All members are most welcome. A key item on the agenda will be the election of new committee members.
Helen Browne has recently joined the tandem club as a rear rider. She is urgently seeking volunteers to look after her guide dog while she is out riding. If you feel you can be of assistance, please contact Derek on 0161 764 1239. If you are unable to help, but know someone who may, please pass this request on to them.Thank you.
Due to work commitments, Ben feels unable to take part in club runs for the time being. We would like to thank him for his services so far.
A list of phone numbers has been produced which may be useful in emergencies while on club runs. This consists of a selection of the home and mobile numbers of twelve club members, some of whom will be riding and some of whom will be at home on any one day. This will enable club members to know each others' whereabouts during rides and to summon help in the event of an emergency or mechanical breakdown while riding. This list is printed on card which has been laminated. All rear riders MUST carry these cards in their First Aid pouches on every ride. Any rear rider who does not have one of these lists should contact Alan Robinson on 01204 840860.
The world's smallest wheeled rideable bicycle is one with wheels of 0.76 inches diameter which was ridden by its constructor Neville Patten of Gladstone, Queensland, Australia, for a distance of 13 feet 5.5 inches on 25 March 1988.
We urgently need front riders, or many of our visually impaired members will be sat at home on future Sundays instead of tandeming. Please don't leave it to others to search for volunteers - the situation is serious and becoming worse!
