Due to Dave Harrison’s forthcoming retirement in July, our Club needs a Mechanic to spend up to five hours each week servicing and adjusting tandems prior to our Sunday rides. This job would suit any mechanically-minded person and full training will be given as necessary by Dave. Salary is by negotiation. For further details, contact Derek or Dave.
A deposit has been paid to our base, Clifton Bridge Guesthouse, York, and the weekend is now ‘on’. Three double rooms and five twin rooms are reserved. The cost is £37 per person per night, including breakfast, i.e. £148 per room for our 2-night stay. Participants include Mike & Carol Berry, Dave & Lorraine H., Dave & Dorothy J., Derek P, Martin C, Kevin G, John R, Bryn Thomas and Alan & Joyce R. This means we need at least one more front rider to make up 4 complete tandems. Would anyone else care to join us in what promises to be a very enjoyable weekend? How about someone (there’s room for up to 3 more people!) from our new front riders, perhaps? Ring Alan on 01204 840860 if interested. The countryside around York makes for quiet and enjoyable riding and the city is a mine of interest for those of us who prefer to walk rather than cycle. Transport and other details will be supplied to participants nearer the time.
Could we again remind members that, following a vote at the last Committee meeting in February 2008, membership subscriptions have now been scrapped. Please note, however, that all riding members must continue to pay annual RiderBike Insurance subscriptions.
A great thank-you to Lorraine and Dave Harrison for organising our Annual Dinner. The Waterloo Arms was as welcoming as ever and participants enjoyed an excellent hot four-course meal. This was followed by a generous raffle with lots of prizes. Thanks to everyone who gave prizes and especially to Margaret Carr who again donated one of her splendid paintings.
The Club is now functioning on 16 pilots and 6 of these are currently off the rota due to illness. This is the main reason for runs going out fortnightly – we just don’t have enough front riders! Rides are mainly fortnightly but the pattern of alternate weeks’ rides is not set in stone but can be disrupted by Bank Holidays etc. this can lead to 2 Sunday rides coming together.
If yours needs updating on our records please let Joyce know now.
Please send in articles/suggestions etc to www.bury-tandem-club.org.uk for publication in the next newsletter or phone John on 01204 845 956. Make your views known!
